Charging Solution for Residents’ Shared Use at Outdoor Parking Space

Project Background

A housing company located in Turku previously had no built charging infrastructure. The preferred solution was to build charging readiness for future use, intended for shared use by the residents. The charging infrastructure was implemented at the outdoor parking area of the housing company, which includes a total of 28 parking spaces, four outdoor spaces and 24 covered spaces.

Future-Proof Charging Solution

Chargers were installed on outdoor parking spaces using post-mounted units directly into the ground. In addition, charging readiness was built for two other parking spaces, which will wait for future installation of charging stations as the need arises. In the carport, the EAE MK series 160 A busbar supplied by InterControl was selected. The choice was influenced by its quick and easy installation, as well as its IP55 protection rating, which ensures protection in Finland’s varying weather conditions. Future expansions are also quick and cost-effective, as a new charging point can be connected directly to the busbar using a tap-off unit.

Durability and Usability

The chosen charging stations are Etrel INCH Pro models, which offer durability and usability in outdoor conditions. The charger features an aluminum casing, a MID-certified energy meter, and a touchscreen that clearly displays charging data to the user. The chargers are socket models, which increases convenience and flexibility between different vehicles.

The electrical cabinet, located in a visible spot on the housing company’s premises, was taped to match the surroundings, ensuring that the technical implementation remained visually tidy as part of the environment.

Consumption monitoring and billing for charging are made easy with the eParking service, which allows user identification and payment through the eParking app on a per-user basis.

Summary

The implemented solution provides the housing company with a modern, scalable, and practical electric vehicle charging infrastructure, enabling immediate charging at outdoor spaces and readiness for two additional points. The EAE 160 A busbar enables easy and quick future expansion without significant additional installations.
