Smart charging in the housing company’s outdoor parking area

A smart and scalable electric vehicle charging solution was implemented for the housing company’s outdoor parking area, serving both residents’ current and future electric vehicles. The housing company, located in Turku, has a total of 27 parking spaces, of which 20 are under a carport and the rest are outside. During the installation of the charging infrastructure, the existing socket enclosures were left in place, allowing them to continue to be used for car heating in the future.

The selected charging stations are smart INCH Pro 22 kW charging stations in a socket model. The stations are equipped with a MID-approved energy meter and a clear touchscreen display, allowing users to view the charging progress and energy consumption in real time. The durable aluminum housing ensures reliable operation in Finland’s outdoor conditions, making the solution well suited for outdoor use.

KotiCharge was selected as the system operator, enabling charging usage and billing to be handled on a user-specific basis via a mobile application. This reduces the administrative workload of the housing company and clarifies cost allocation. The charging infrastructure utilizes a wireless data connection, which enables load management and supports the operator in user authentication and service billing.

Power distribution was implemented using busbars

Safety and energy efficiency played a key role when implementing a charging solution. All charging stations are connected to intelligent dynamic load management, which distributes the available charging power evenly among different vehicles. This prevents overloading of the electrical grid and enables the simultaneous charging of multiple electric vehicles without the risk of power outages.

The charging infrastructure was built in the carports using EAE 160 A MK busbar distribution system. The busbas enables a neat and unnoticeable installation as well as efficient power distribution to each charging point. The wall-mounted busbars make the system easily expandable, as new charging points can be added later quickly and easily without significant modification work.

The electrical contractor for the project was VS-Proservice Oy, which carried out the charging infrastructure installation in accordance with the plans.
