The City of Lahti is committed to implementing environmentally friendly solutions in the field of electric mobility. As two diesel-powered library buses reached the end of their service life and were decommissioned at the end of last year, Lahti introduced a fully electric, accessible library bus to replace both older vehicles. The new low-floor library bus ensures accessibility for all users while supporting Lahti’s environmental goals with its electric propulsion system.
Hypercharger 50 kW Fast Charger Ensures Efficient Daily Operation
With the new electric library bus, Lahti’s main library needed a charging solution that would support the vehicle’s daily operations. Ensuring sufficient charging power while accommodating space constraints—such as a narrow and limited parking area—made selecting the right solution crucial. The InterControl-supplied Hypercharger HYC50 fast charging station was chosen as the ideal solution, perfectly meeting all requirements.

A compact and space-saving Hypercharger was installed between the library’s loading docks by a local contractor, maximizing the available space while maintaining accessibility. The charger enables simultaneous charging of two vehicles at 25 kW each, making it future-proof for potential additional fleet expansion. When charging a single vehicle, it provides a maximum charging power of 50 kW, ensuring the library bus is efficiently charged between operating hours. Additionally, the station includes a cable management system, making usage easier and extending the lifespan of the charging cables.
Modern Technology for Maximum Energy Efficiency
The charging station is equipped with advanced silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor technology, which ensures quiet operation inside the building while achieving an exceptional efficiency rate of 97.5%. This high efficiency significantly reduces energy costs, making Hypercharger a cost-effective and sustainable choice. The charger is also future-ready and can be integrated into Lahti’s centralized charging management system, if the city decide to monitor and control multiple charging stations from a single platform.
Summary
The installed charging solution ensures the reliable and efficient daily operation of Lahti’s electric library bus. This project demonstrates how challenging spaces can be effectively utilized with a well-planned and high-quality charging solution that serves the city of Lahti today and in the future.
