Charging infrastructure for electric trucks on long-haul routes
The rapid growth of electric heavy-duty transport is increasing demands on charging infrastructure. In long-distance logistics in particular, high-power charging solutions are required to enable the simultaneous charging of multiple electric trucks without delays or significant power limitations.
In Ålgård, Norway, along the E39 highway, a megawatt charging system for heavy-duty transport has been implemented. The site serves as an important charging hub for logistics routes in Southern Norway and supports the transition of electric heavy transport toward zero-emission operations.
Modular megawatt charging for heavy-duty applications
InterControl delivered a modular megawatt charging solution designed specifically for professional transport fleets. Megawatt charging and high power CCS charging significantly reduces charging times for heavy-duty vehicles, improving vehicle utilization rates and increasing transport efficiency.
At the core of the solution are Alpitronic Hypercharger power units, which enable efficient parallel charging and dynamic load management. The system automatically optimizes available power across different charging points, maximizing charging capacity and improving operational efficiency.
The charging system supports all CCS-compatible electric vehicles, making it a flexible solution for heavy-duty electric vehicles from different manufacturers.
Technical specifications of the site
- Three Alpitronic Hypercharger power units
- Total output: 3 MW
- Eight charging points
- Up to 600 A charging current per charging point
- Dynamic power distribution and load management
- Capability for simultaneous charging of multiple electric trucks

Close cooperation enabled successful implementation
The project was carried out in close collaboration between multiple industry stakeholders. Omexom Technical & Urban Solutions South / Otera Infra AS was responsible for installation and implementation, while Fastcharge operates the charging network.
Cooperation between Nordic experts enabled a robust and scalable solution, characterized by high availability, reliability, and continuous operational performance.
Ålgård as part of Norway’s heavy-duty charging network
The megawatt charging system in Ålgård serves as a key hub along long-haul routes in Southern Norway. The implementation demonstrates in practice that electrification of heavy transport is possible even in operationally demanding environments, highlighting the following benefits:
- Megawatt-scale charging enables efficient electrification of heavy-duty transport
- Simultaneous charging of multiple vehicles can be performed without significant power limitations
- A modular system architecture allows capacity scaling for future needs
- Megawatt charging supports the logistics sector’s transition to low-emission transport
Scalable charging infrastructure for the growth of electric heavy transport
As the number of electric trucks increases, charging solutions must scale alongside the evolving vehicle fleet.
The Ålgård implementation demonstrates that megawatt-scale charging infrastructure can be built as a controlled, reliable and future-proof system. Fastcharge sites are currently being installed in Stord, Bergen, and Malvik in Norway. These locations are scheduled to be completed during the summer.
